An Even Faster, Easier Way to Instant Credibility

I published my book for one reason - street cred.  Credibility is CRITICAL to your success.  Especially now when so many people are tired of all the internet hype, instant "experts", and "gurus" who provide no value.  Yes, social media and social proof is great.  But it's not enough anymore.  And that's why I published my book.

I wrote about this back in 2015.  I recommended everyone publish a book because it was the best way to raise your perceived level of expertise.  And some of you have.

But some of you are still shaking your head, thinking no way. That's great for you.  You know someone who owns a publishing company.  You aren't working two jobs to make ends meet.  You don't have a family that needs your attention.  But I don't have time to do this. I don't know what I'd write about. It's too hard to get a book published. Nope, I just can't do this.

But what if you could?  Think how cool that would be!  Adding "author" to your list of accomplishments is an amazing feeling and opens doors you never dreamed of.

Well I am going to tell you that it is entirely possible!  With all the technology advances and access to things like Amazon, writing a book is a lot more doable today than it ever used to be. Gone are those days of having to find a publisher to pitch your book to and waiting to see whether they'll accept it or reject it. Now, it's just a matter of writing the content - and if you've already been blogging for a while, you have a wealth of content available for repurposing.

There's just something that screams expert when you can say you're an author. This builds a level of credibility that can't be beat. Think about it: anybody can set up a blog and start sharing their expertise on a topic. Anybody can write articles and submit them to directories or share on other blogs as a guest expert. Anybody can be a guest on a podcast. But not everybody will put in the time and effort to become an author. If you take the time to do this, not only are you building your credibility, but you're also a step ahead of many others in the market. That’s the power of publishing a book.
But what if you could do all that in minutes.  Impossible you say?  Not anymore!  Because today we have the E-BOOK!

Offering Hope To Continue On

Welcome to Boomer Business Coach!  If this is your first visit, I am glad you are here.  If you are a repeat visitor, welcome back.  Your continued support is greatly appreciated!

When I first started this blog back in 2007, it was meant to be a way to chronicle my own entrepreneurial journey.  I was just starting out and truly had no idea what I was doing.  I just knew that I needed to do SOMETHING different.  I had been in network marketing and that was bringing in a decent income.  But I'll admit it.  It wasn't easy.  I knew I needed to learn to harness the power of this thing called the internet.

Since then it has changed and grown into a blog designed to provide resources to help you live life on your terms.  I still share my own experiences so you can watch as I try something new.  But you'll also find book recommendations, business tips, personal reflections, profiles of interesting people I have met, and more.  But mostly what you'll find is HOPE.

This blog is my way of connecting with and supporting you.  It's my way of helping find solutions to problems you might be having, answering questions you might be asking, introducing you to someone else that might just be the person you need to meet right how.  It's my platform to say, "Don't give up!  If I can do this, so can you."  It's a place to offer hope - hope that when you are about to quit, you can find a way to continue on.

I have been here for over 10 years.  I hope to continue to teach and inspire and motivate you for many years to come.

I recently celebrated my 60th birthday.  And yes, I celebrated!  Because at 60, I am still able to move and work and play with grandkids.  I am blessed beyond measure to be physically and financially healthy.  But no matter what, with age comes change.  And at a recent event I attended, I had a chance to meditate deeply on where I was and where I wanted to be.

And so some changes.  I don't know exactly what they might be.  I just know that I have been feeling restless and the event just focused a light on that.  I know there will be more travel and events.  I believe you become what you consume - whether it be food, knowledge, or experiences - and so I will be on a quest to fill myself with all that is unique, interesting, and nourishing.

I know I will be taking more time to relax and play.  Play is critical.  And I don't do it often enough.

And there will be family.  They are my "why".  The thing that has kept me going when I have wanted to walk away.

But one thing that will not change is this - I will still be here offering hope to anyone who wants a better life.

I'm not sure what the next 10 years will bring.  But I do know that each new day gives me another reason to be grateful and to thank God for all he has provided me.  I'm excited to see what lies ahead.  Are you?  Then let's see what's out there!

Boy Was I Surprised!

A few weeks ago I wrote my list about a project I was considering.  When I first started out in business and finding my way, I did a series of recorded interviews.  Not with the "hot" gurus everyone else was talking to, but with people I found interesting.  People whose advice had been helpful to me.  They were a lot of fun and people seemed to enjoy them.

But I was still struggling to figure out who I was in the business world and "the gurus" did not seem too impressed with my little recordings.  I wasn't secure enough then in my own "entrepreneurial self" to say "Tough *&%(!  I enjoy them and the people listening enjoy them and the people doing them enjoy them and so I will continue."  No, I caved completely and stopped and tried to model myself after all the other people I saw.

Thankfully I have a habit of cleaning things out at the beginning of a new year.  That includes computer files.  And this year while doing so, I found a couple of the original recordings.  I posted them on my website and once again received lots of positive feedback.  And it reminded me of how much fun they were!  And so I asked my list to weigh in.  Would they like to see something similar done again?  And the response was overwhelming and surprising!

The answer was a resounding - maybe.  Why?  Well with the advent of things like Facebook Live and Zoom and YouTube, recorded interviews are popping up everywhere, apparently.  And there are lots of people calling themselves "gurus" that shouldn't.  And that when many of these "experts" do an interview, it is with the purpose of selling you something, not actually teaching you something.  If I could bring people that were actually knowledgeable, that would share what they knew, and not be just one big infomercial, then perhaps they would be interested.  Otherwise - well they might tune in if they weren't busy.

I can definitely meet everyone of those requirements.  So based on this feedback, I think I will move forward with this.  But in the meantime, I thought I would provide a little info of my own.  How to find the right "guru" for you.  Because the wrong one can do tremendous damage to your business.  But the RIGHT one can help you reach heights you never imagined.  These are the guidelines I will be using when I'm looking for interview subjects.

1.  Do they actually provide good information?  As I stated earlier, I get hundreds of emails every day and many of them are from the latest expert "sharing" the latest tip, trick, or trend to grow my business.  But many times, further reading of their email or website reveals very little useful information and lots of self-promotion.  I realize that we are all in business to make money but the best gurus aren't afraid to provide useful information to anyone - for free!  Think Diane Hochman.

 2.  Do they tell the truth?  If you are being promised riches overnight (or in a week or even a month) with no effort, no investment, no skills, and no knowledge. you are being lied to.  There are many ways to make money online.  But they all require work or the money to hire someone to do it for you.  They require the skill and knowledge to create a business plan - or the money to hire someone to do it for you.  You will need to build websites, market your products or services, deliver your goods to your customers - or find someone to do it for you.  And beware the gurus who spend all their time "proving" how much money they made.  Anyone can photoshop bank statements or checks showing millions in income - even me (and I'm technologically challenged!).  The real experts don't have to convince you they make money.  They are to busy running their businesses and showing others how to build theirs.

 3.  Can you do what they do?  A multi-level marketing expert I used to follow suggested the way to build my network marketing business was by purchasing leads and then calling these people every day and making my pitch.  She sure was successful, but I hate cold-calling with a passion!  Although these were "qualified" leads, the thought of calling someone I didn't know and trying to interest them in my business made me absolutely nauseous.  Needless to say, we soon parted professional company.

4.  Can they teach?  Just because someone is an expert in their field does not mean they know how to share that knowledge with others in a way that is understandable to you.

5.  Do they run in the right circles?  And by that I don't necessarily mean the "in" crowd.  I mean do they know other experts they can introduce you to.  The best example I can give of this is Ken McArthur and his Impact Events or Brian Fanale and the MLSP Live the Dream events.  I've had the pleasure of attending a couple of these and it's a veritable "who's who" of marketing experts.  Ken and Brian may not have all the answers, but if they don't they know the people who do.

6.  Are you comfortable with them?  This is an important consideration.  Recently, I was going to start working with a new coach.  I liked his program.  He was recommended by many of my friends.  But after talking to him on the phone, I realized I didn't like him!  He had a way of speaking that made me feel like I was just the latest check mark towards his quota of new clients for the week.  Perhaps it would have changed if I had actually started working with him.  But I just couldn't get past that first impression.  You must be comfortable with your coach or mentor or you will just be wasting your time.

Finding your guru can take some time and effort, but it is worth it.  Do your homework.  Ask for recommendations.  Check them out.  Choose the one that's right for you.

I'm in the process of deciding which platform I will use and starting a list of prospective subjects.  Is there someone you would love to hear from?  Pick their brain for a bit?  Ask questions and get answers?  Write their name in the comments and I'll see what I can do!

Meet Suzanah Platt

You know how I'm always telling you to reach out and connect with the people who comment, like, or share your social media content?  There's a reason for that.  You can meet some amazing people!  That's exactly how I met my newest "Success Story".  I posted something on Facebook.  She commented and asked a question.  I responded.  One thing led to another and soon we were having a conversation.  Just like that!  And not once did we pitch each other on our businesses!  So nice to meet someone who gets it.  Now you can meet her too - Suzanah Platt!

1.       Tell us about yourself

My names is Suzanah Platt and I am a 42 year old UK based Coach. My career has been varied and interesting both academically and professionally. I consider myself so fortunate to have had the experiences I have had, which have inevitably lead me to where I am.  My first degree was in Social Science with a heavy bias towards Psychology and Philosopy. After graduating, I trained as a Financial Advisor and worked in that industry for eight years. I learnt so much about rapport building, networking and the importance of repeat business in this time. As much as I enjoyed corporate financial services, I had always dreamt of a career in law, so in 2004, I took a leap of faith and gave up my job to do a Law Degree in one year, followed by the academic qualifications for become a Barrister. I was called to the English Bar in November 2006, this was one of the proudest moments of my life. I then went on to practice Civil Advocacy for ten years. I learnt a lot of transferable skills in this time and enjoyed my job, however everything changed for me when I discovered EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping). My hobby has always been personal development and I particularly love the work of Paul McKenna, Anthony Robbins and Brandon Burchard. In 2015 a hypnotherapist friend of mine suggested I try EFT for a long-engrained fear of flying. I tried it and after two sessions I flew!! This was almost a first at the age of 40! I was hooked and knew I had to get it out to the world. I went to qualify and within a few months I had to take the decision to give up my legal career as I was too busy with EFT coaching to do both. I have never looked back. It was the easiest decision I have ever made and the best. I adore what I do and I work with some of the best people you can imagine, committed and keen people, that just need a little help and the right tools to succeed. I am an extremely positive person who believes in taking chances when they feel right.

2.       Tell us about your business

My business is called Splatt Coaching. Why? Because it is my name “S Platt” and if I have to have a funny name I may as well use it to my advantage!! It is different and people remember it! It also became my business acronym “Simple Practical, Life Altering Transformational Techniques.

I work with clients from all over the world from UK to Australia now. Its been an amazing journey. I do see face-to-face clients, but most of my work is on Skype. I work with a lot of network Marketers, who I love because they tend to be committed to personal development and see the merit in it.

My job is to identify and remove blocks to progress, work to eliminate limiting beliefs, whether that’s a phobia or limiting beliefs around money and everything in between. We also set goals and workout strategies to achieve them. I work a two limb approach. Firstly the removal of blocks and secondly, the use of positive psychology to maintain positive state.

I work with EFT, Matrix reimprinting (which is really exciting), guided visualization techniques, breathing techniques, anchoring and mindfulness, amongst many other coaching tools”.

3.       Why did you start your own business?

I am not so sure I started, the business, as the business started itself. It all happened fast. I had a strong focus and a strong wanting to get these superb techniques out to the world and the energy and momentum I had seemed to be all that was needed. I work from and coach from a Law of Attraction perspective, so I believe that positive focus and maintaining a state of appreciation for everything we have is a huge part of getting what we want. I was light about it, but deeply focused on the outcome of working with the right clients and everything has flowed. I find that the way I teach, this starts to happen for my clients, provided they are committed to and apply the tools given.

4.       How did you choose this particular niche?

My Niche has become business clients with a big bias toward network marketers. I didn’t so much choose the Niche market as set the strong intention of the type of people I wanted to work with. This has lead to this Niche. As I mentioned above, these people have a tendency to gel with my coaching style.  I am a clear thinking, straight talking, empathic yet extremely practical person and my coaching style reflects this approach.

5.       What do you like most and least about being your own boss?

I love everything about being my own boss. You work hard, but you do it for yourself and that makes all the difference to me. I wake up everyday excited to see how I can help the clients for that day. Clients become more like friends after time, but that strengthens the bond and I am very good at getting the best out of people.

If I had to say what was hard, it would be trying to be everything. By that I mean wearing all the hats. It is easy to become everything from the cleaner to the accountant. It is important to get some help where necessary and leverage your own time, which is one principle I stick by and teach. I also think, self care is easily let go of, but is absolutely key. If you are not prepared to invest in yourself, it is easy to burn out. You are all you have in a small business.

6.       What personality traits and skills are needed to run a business?

From working with clients I would say, that everyone has their individual differences which is what makes the world go around. However, what I teach my entrepreneurs I call the 6P principle, you can read all about this on my website, however it stands for Pledge, Peace, Precision, Poise, Pluck and Passion.  In my opinion this covers it all. It is the right kind of relax mentality, combined with laser sharp thinking and clarity of goals and intentions. However, the biggest thing is the passion for what you do and being willing to go the extra mile.

7.       What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur?

Being willing to give up a well paid job with regular income to try something very different, in an area of the UK that is not near a major city. Being willing to take the plunge and hold the faith at the odd difficult moment. However, the tools I use and teach have made this much more manageable.

8.       Do you have any resources that you have used to build your business that you would recommend?

At the risk of repeating myself a bit, the tools I use and teach!

9.       Do you have any tips to share on promoting yourself?

This may not be the case for all business types of course, however I think it is fairly universal. Ask for referrals. Ask clients who they know that would benefit from your services. Talk to anyone that will listen about what you do. Social media posting is also immensely valuable. Ask people for favours and pay it forward! Always give too, don’t just expect people to do for you.

10.   What other advice would like to share with someone starting their own business?

Be brave, be bold, be passionate, be sure and hire a coach.

11. How can we contact you to learn more about your products and services?

 12. Is there anything else you would like to share?

A youtube interview with me by Sharon King Author of Matrix Birth Reimprinting book where  I tell my story

Plus, I would like to offer a special deal to all the readers of this blog!  For a limited time, I will provide a 90-minute session for $65, if they go to www.splatt-coaching.co.uk/contact and put AMERICAN CLIENT offer in the subject line.

Testimonials: How to Get ‘Em, and How to Show ‘Em Off

Want to know the most important words on your website? It’s not your blog or your sales page. It’s your testimonials.

Think about this: When a potential client visits your site, he or she has no idea if you are professional, good at your job, or if you’re even capable of doing the work he or she has in mind. The only thing your new customer has to go by is your word, and that of the people you’ve worked with in the past.

How to Get Testimonials

Here’s the obvious answer: ask. Yes, it may seem overly simplified, but the truth is, most people will not volunteer a testimonial, but will gladly provide one if you just ask. Consider creating a template email in which you ask for a testimonial. Then each time you finish a job with a new client, simply copy and paste and send it off.

Of course, if you’re just getting started, you may not have any testimonials to show off. What then? There are plenty of ways to gain testimonials when you’re just starting out.

  • Volunteer your services in exchange for a testimonial
  • Become an intern – many business owners will happily provide a testimonial at the end of your internship
  • Ask people you’ve worked with in the past, even in a different capacity. A testimonial saying you’re hard working and conscientious is just as valuable whether the person is talking about your stint as a bank teller or your new virtual assistant business.

How to Display Testimonials

We’ve already said how important testimonials are when you’re trying to entice new clients. But here’s a weird thing about those potential customers: They’re not very likely to actually click on the “Testimonials” tab in your nav bar.

So how do you let them know about those great things people are saying about you?

First, don’t hide them all away on a single page. Sprinkle them throughout your site. Some good places for testimonials include:

  • In your sidebar
  • In your header
  • On your about page
  • On your home page
  • In your footer
  • On your sales page

If you’re using WordPress, you can use a plugin to “rotate” your testimonials, so the same one isn’t shown to each and every visitor.
Here’s something else to consider: It’s easy to make up rocking testimonials. While you know that you would never do that, others may not know it. So when you’re using a testimonial on your page, be sure to include the person’s full name, website or physical address (city and state), and a photo. Even better is a video testimonial, if you can arrange it.

Keep Healthy Snacks In Your Home Office To Reduce Stress

It's true we have to eliminate clutter, get organized, and create calm surroundings in our home office in order to reduce stress. However, once all this is accomplished, we still have the stress of our work load. When work is stressful, many of us reach for something to calm and comfort our nerves. Too often, that something is food; and not healthy food.

The title 'comfort food' typically brings on visions of fast burning carbohydrate-loaded goodies. This food will calm and comfort, yes, but at what expense? The comfort is over quickly, leaving you just wanting more, while the damage to your body goes on, and on.

What can be done? Are there better foods that comfort, calm, and relieve stress? Let's take a look at some foods you can enjoy in your home office that truly comfort and calm for healthy stress relief.

Blueberries

This super-loaded berry is an antioxidant powerhouse and is known for improving cognition. High in vitamin C, blueberries and other berries, as well, lower blood pressure and cortisol levels, reducing the effects of stress.

Cashews

Although all nuts are great for snacking because they're rich in healthy fats and protein, cashews are especially high in zinc. This is an important element for reducing anxiety and for improving overall mood. Since zinc is not stored in the body, having a cashew snack every day is definitely a good idea.

Walnuts

Another brain booster, the humble walnut has proven itself to be a real memory builder. And what's more stressful than forgetting what you need to know for your work assignments? Walnuts contain essential omega-3 fatty acids which not only improve memory but helps the brain stay younger, too.

Chamomile Tea

Take a break and have a nice cup of tea; but not just any tea. Try chamomile to calm and soothe the nerves during a stressful work day. Chamomile tea has been proven to reduce anxiety, making it the perfect addition to your stress reducing routine.

Green Tea

Stress can sometimes cause our brains to go into slow motion. If you're feeling sluggish and can't seem to get your mental motor running, grab a cup or two of green tea (hot or cold) and enjoy a boost to your brain power. And the caffeine is not getting all the credit; green tea contains an amino acid that is linked to mental alertness.

Dark Chocolate

No, you don't want to go crazy with a bag of M&Ms. But a small piece of dark chocolate has been shown to lower blood pressure and calm the nerves. Stress reduction can be sweet! But, remember; dark chocolate in moderation.

Oatmeal

This complex carbohydrate is a true comfort food. Snacking on a handful of rolled oats will kick your brain into over-drive producing serotonin, the feel-good antioxidant which soothes and calms the brain. Mix together a combination of rolled oats, nuts, and other good foods and keep a container in your home office for a quick snack that satisfies both body and brain.

These are just a few of the many healthy foods that have been shown to help reduce stress in many ways. Keep a supply in your home office for a quick snack that truly comforts and calms.
