Drumroll Please! Announcing My Most Popular Posts of 2019!

I love sharing my most popular posts of the past year.  I am always excited to see what resonates with my audience.  What interests them the most.  It gives me a real peek into your needs and helps me create content that is actually USEFUL to you!

I look at what posts got the most traffic over the year.  And it always amazes me.  First, because it doesn't always correspond with the list published on my blog.  And second, because sometimes the post wasn't published that same year!  Those are the ones I love the most.  It lets me know that I shared something valuable and timeless.  And that is a dream come true for me!

I blog on all sorts of topics.  Mostly business.  Some would say others aren't strictly business related but I think there's an element of entrepreneurship in there somewhere.  I try to share interesting people I've met, valuable resources I've found, and everything I have learned over time.  And that diversity is almost always represented in the top 10 list.

Are you curious to see what caught everyone's attention this year?  Me too!  So without further ado, here are my Top 10 Most Popular Posts of 2019!

1.  The number one post of 2019 was actually published in 2018 but continued to strike a chord with lots of people.  And I'm not surprised.  I introduced you to the woman who can help your children or grandchildren go to college for FREE!  If you haven't met her yet, you will definitely want to check out Free College? Yes, Says Elizabeth Wallace.  If you have a college-bound teen in your family, this is a must read.

2.  I Know What I Bring To The Table.  I really do!  And I laid it all out in this post from 2018 that still resonates with people today.  Your experiences in life can make you or break you.  I chose to use mine to help me grow.  What will you choose?

3.  If you want to know where I learned how to make money, look no further.  The third most popular post this year was What My Parents Taught Me About Money.  You might be surprised.  It's may not be what you think!

4.  You know how I feel about multiple streams of income.  Everybody needs them.  So I loved the interview I did with Terri Dennis.  She is the master of multiple streams of income.  Apparently many others liked it too because it was the fourth most popular post of 2019.  Check it out.  Terri Dennis Talks about Multiple Streams of Income

5.   One of the reasons you chose to work from home was to spend more time with your family, am I right?  But you also have to actually work from time to time!  My fifth most popular post helps with that dilemma by sharing how to Make Your Home Office Family Friendly.

6.  Just so you know...my book collection now rivals Kerry's!  Build a Better Business with This One Simple Habit.

7.  If you have a side hustle that you want to turn into a full-time gig, I have a suggestion for you.  Set up a referral or affiliate program.  If you're stuck on how to begin, #7 gives you some steps to help you Start an Affiliate Program.

8.  My tribute to my dad touched a lot of hearts, making it the eighth most popular post of for 2019.  Lessons from My Dad I still carry with me today.

9.  I love introducing everyone to the amazing people I meet and work with.  Apparently you like it too.  Three of my top most popular posts were profiles of really cool people.  You've met Elizabeth Wallace and Terri Dennis.  Now meet Al Glover.  You can read all about him here.  Sometimes It Pays to Step Outside the Norm! Meet Al Glover!

10.  Last but not least.  This post has made the list every year.  That tells me a lot about what is happening in the industry.  I wrote this back in 2013 and six years later it still hits people where they hurt...objections to our business model.  If you are struggling, check out Network Marketing Tip of the Week - Overcoming Objections

Which post on this list is your favorite?  I know which ones I had the most fun writing!  Or is there one you love that didn't make the list?  Share your faves in the comments.

Functional Art? Meet Christopher McDaniel

Browsing on Facebook, I repeatedly saw pictures posted of furniture.  The most unique and beautiful furniture.  I would like the post and tell myself that when we were done remodeling and I was ready to furnish, I would find out who was posting these photos so I could perhaps purchase a few pieces for myself.  Well, it turns out that I already know who is making them!  I'm more than a little embarrassed to say that it took me awhile to figure it out - especially since he is a friend of mine!  A real friend not just a Facebook friend!  True, we haven't spoken in a little while, but still....  Anyway, once I figured it out, I knew I had to introduce him to everyone.  Looking for some functional art for your home?  Look no further.  Meet Christopher McDaniel!

1.  Chris, Tell us about yourself.

My name is Christopher McDaniel, Owner of Custom CreteAtions.

2. Tell us about your business.
We specialize in making custom furniture designed specifically for each customer.  We love using premium woods to design our furniture around because not only is it more beautiful and features unique grain patterns, but it makes it custom to the purchaser!

3. Why did you start your own business?

I got tired of buying furniture from major retailers just to have it break or fall apart within a matter of months.  Out of this frustration I set out to build my own furniture that I knew could stand up to the rigors of everyday life (kids, pets, etc.).  While making my first table, which was a polished concrete coffee table, I learned that I really liked the building and designing process and decided to start my business.

4. How did you choose this particular niche?
I struggled with this a little and got discouraged many times because I never really defined my niche in the beginning.  I just labeled myself as a furniture maker and went with it.  I found it hard to compete with others in the same field because they priced their pieces so cheap because they were using cheaper materials.  It wasn’t until I sat back and truly thought about what I was doing that it came to me.  I wasn’t just a furniture maker, I designed and crafted Functional Art!  It is furniture that is unique and unlike other pieces that looks amazing in your home or office but is still 100% usable.

5. What do you like most and least about being your own boss?
I like the total control that being an entrepreneur offers.  Your success is determined by how hard you are willing to work.  I don’t like that there never seems to be enough hours in the day.

6. What personality traits and skills are needed to run a business?
You have to be driven!  There are many times where it seems like you hit a brick wall in one aspect or another and you have to dig down and push through it.  If you don’t then you might as well close up shop.

7. What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur?
Right now, it’s finding time to do everything that needs to be done.  Working with limited help has made utilizing proper time management skills a must!

8.  Do you have any resources that you have used to build your business that you would recommend?
I have found that when processing payments using a trusted and well-known processor is vital!  I personally use PayPal and Square to process payments and it gives buyers a sense of reassurance knowing that they have options if they feel something is fishy.

9. Do you have any tips to share on promoting yourself?
Marketing/promoting yourself is something that you always have to be doing!  If you want to stay competitive then you have to keep your business on the forethought of potential customers.  Luckily, we have many free ways to do this through Facebook, Instagram, and other social media outlets.

10. What other advice would like to share with someone starting their own business?
Have a business plan! Have a marketing plan! Have a sales plan!  If you don’t start with the foundation for your business, then it will crumble!  I formed a rough business plan and had an idea of how I was going to market the business in my head but when it came time to execute, I fell flat on my face.  I then had to take a step back and physically draw it out step by step to get myself back on track.  More importantly then that, the plan needs to be able to “grow” with your business.  Don’t think of it as a one time and done deal but as a living breathing piece of your business that must be adapted to the current market environment.

11. How can we contact you to learn more about your products and services?
Primary ways to contact Custom CreteAtions is through our Facebook or Instagram pages.

12. Is there anything else you would like to share?

All followers and page likers will receive special first chance to buy opportunities at discounted prices before they go to official sales sights! We also offer a referral bonus program where you can earn 5% by referring a customer to us based off the amount they purchase!

Cruisin' the Mediterranean with My New Friend - Meet Erik Andre

You know what I love most about this business?  All of the awesome people I get to meet!  And thanks to the internet, I have met people from all over the world.  My newest friend is from the Mediterranean.  How much fun is that?!  He's a fellow online and network marketer and he really knows his stuff.  Meet Erik Andre!

1. Erik, tell us about yourself.

My name is Erik Andre, age 40, located in the Mediterranean.

I’ve been a Network Marketer since 1995, full-time since 2003.

I grew up in a normal family, with hard working entrepreneur parents who started with network marketing in the late 80’s which gave me a lot of insight and inspiration to what hard work and dedication can do. During the high school years, I was struggling a lot to fit in and learn, due to my ADHD and found out that I had to find another way to get anywhere in life as a regular education and job just didn’t work out for me. So halfway through my last year, I chose to drop out and start working.

That’s probably the toughest decision I ever made, and I had years of struggle to find something that I actually felt good with doing. So my mom started taking me on tours with their network marketing company, taught me everything she knows about it – and I was hooked!

I tried and failed over and over, and it took me many years to
find the right company and finally get any real results.

It was first after serving in the military that things started to change for me. I started as a freelance consultant in energy brokerage and that’s when I realized my potential and started taking personal development courses, attending seminars with experienced leaders in the network marketing industry and finally found my true passion.

2. Tell us about your business

I’m part of a company called MyWorld, which is the largest shopping community in the world with more than 7 million active members in 48 countries.
We offer cashback and other benefits with hundreds of thousands of businesses and more than 15 000 online shops. This is my primary offline network marketing business which I have a burning passion for. We are giving back to communities through our Child & Family foundation, providing clean water, building up communities (building and running schools in third world countries) and our Greenfinity Foundation which is focusing on renewable energy and a better environment al around the world.

I also have an online business, a Millionaire Mentoring Program where we teach network marketers, both newbies and experienced marketers, a better way to build their business.

We focus on teaching effective strategies for recruiting and selling, personal development, mindset and skill development, brand building and quantum physics to mention a few things.

We have more than 1600 happy and active students which have generated more than $3 million USD in commissions over the past 3 years, and offer valuable resources, tips and education on network marketing in general. We also offer education in crypto currency and how to effectively build multiple income streams.

3. Why did you start your own business?

When I started with MyWorld in 2014, it was because I was tired of lotions and potions and saw a unique opportunity to build real passive residual income without having to constantly push products in order to maintain my income. And now, 5 years later, I have a solid passive residual income from it which gives me more time freedom to spend time with my family and help others to achieve success and reach their goals in their current business.

4.  How did you choose this particular niche?

Network marketing came natural to me since my parents was doing it. And when I discovered a way to build a solid business without pushing products on people I was “in love” instantly.
My dream has for many years been to be able to help others to get properly introduced to and educated in the industry and all it has to offer.

5. What do you like most and least about being your own boss?

Being your own boss is much harder than having a boss, but in network marketing it ultimately gives you so much more freedom and options in life when you’ve built a solid foundation and a solid brand for yourself. I never wanted to be part of the corporate world, so network marketing was a real gift to me.

6. What personality traits and skills are needed to run a business?

If you want to run a successful business in network marketing, the most important skills to have is lead generation, communication and leadership – you have to be able to step up and take responsibility and be a good leader not only for your team, but for yourself as well.

7. What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur?

That’s a very good question.

For me, in the beginning, it was being disciplined enough to do all that is necessary to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to build myself up.

Time management is a very common issue for many people who get into entrepreneurship, but as long as one can drop the go, surrender the pride and be coachable, anything is possible.

8. Do you have any resources that you have used to build your business that you would recommend?

Personal development is a very important part of building my business, and I’m constantly challenging myself with new things on that subject (our Millionaire Mentoring Program has been very important). Additional to that, it’s important to have a marketing platform to handle your lead generation, email follow-ups, training. To me, Power Lead System has been invaluable to me and my business as it has everything you need to run an online business.

9. Do you have any tips to share on promoting yourself?

A lot of people in the industry are focusing mostly on promoting their company and products, and that’s where they go wrong.

Network Marketing is about building your own brand, because people don’t join companies, they join people. So if you learn how to brand yourself, connect with people on a personal level and become a genuine friend, you will get better results.

The big “secret” is to identify peoples pain point and problem and offer them a solution to it.

10.   What other advice would like to share with someone starting their own business?

My best advice is to get a mentor.

And it’s important to find a mentor who shares the same values as yourself, and that has already achieved what you want to achieve. If you do that, and be coachable to their teachings, you can see great results in as little as 30 days. I’ve seen this so many times, and I’ve shown this to hundreds of people who are grateful for the advice I’ve given them.

11.   How can we contact you to learn more about your products and services?

The easiest way to reach me is on Facebook. On my Facebook business page you can find out more about me, and see testimonials from people I’ve worked with. I also have a website but I rarely use or update it as Facebook has become my main place to build my brand and connect with people.
Why spend money on a website as a beginner when you can leverage Facebook, right?

12.   Is there anything else you would like to share?

If you’re seriously looking to build a career in network marketing, remember that it’s in your best interest to stay clear of family and friends, as they are your strongest critics and are the ones who will try to tear down your dream and convince you that you’ll fail.

We Are Family! Meet Ken Kinstle!

Many of you know that my husband and I ride. Bikes. Motorcycles that is. Harleys to be exact. We love the freedom of hitting the open road and just being. It's a wonderful feeling. One of the other benefits of being a "biker" is that you have family wherever you go. We are all part of one big community of people who value freedom to live life on our terms. So it's no surprise that this month's Success Story and I hit it off almost immediately. He's a fellow biker!  Meet the newest member of MY biker family - AND co-founder of our new venture Bikerpreneurs - Ken Kinstle!

1. Ken, tell us a little about yourself.

I am a business owner, and entrepreneur. I am the founder of
Wellness and Wealth Builders. I am always working to help others with their personal wellness or building their legacy income. You will find me sometimes in the lead or sometimes in the group serving and learning how to serve better. Always helping others create new ways to wellness and success and having fun doing it.

2. Tell us about your business.

Welcome to a whole new world of opportunity, rewards and satisfaction! Our goal at Wellness and Wealth Builders is to help people everywhere achieve greater wellness – both in their physical lives as well as their financial ones. As a pioneering global company, we’ve created a unique opportunity where individuals like you can benefit financially by simply sharing this vision and mission with others.

3. Why did you start your own business?

To build a legacy and a legacy income for my family in the future. I am a serial entrepreneur..lol. I have been since I was a child!

4. How did you choose this particular niche?

I am in three niches now. The wellness niche presented itself to me in 2006 and it was a business decision that started me there. Crypto was added because I have fallen in love with digital currency. I love numbers and the blockchain model and its derivatives are fascinating to me. And travel because I love the ocean and love to travel!

5. What do you like most and least about being your own boss?

It's ironic that you ask this question. What I like best?  Time freedom! So much so, that I recently closed down my brick and mortar businesses because of what I like least - the ridiculously long hours and low rewards.

6. What personality traits and skills are needed to run a business?

All you really need are persistence and patience. All the other skills necessary can be learned.

7. What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur?

Patience, lol! I still struggle with that one!

8. Do you have any resources that you have used to build your business that you would recommend?

Two things that you almost never find on the "recommended resources list". Successful mentors. People who are where you want to be and are willing to help you get there. And a mastermind group. Think of it as a study group like you had in high school or college. Both of these are critical for ANY DEGREE of success.

9. Do you have any tips to share on promoting yourself?

Be transparent and honest… engage with people!

10. What other advice would like to share with someone starting their own business?

Find your passion and pour yourself into it. I know that may sound trite but it's true. You have to be passionate about what you are doing or odds are you will quit at the first bump in the road.

11. How can we contact you to learn more about your products and services?

12. Is there anything else you would like to share?

I am honored to be a part of helping others build their legacy and legacy income. I strive to help people and add value wherever I can as this is the key to being successful. You indeed reap what you sow!

The Other Half of FoxxYork - Meet Richard Realtor®!

I'll bet you didn't realize that when I introduced you to Al Glover of FoxxYork, that he came with a partner. Well he does! And it makes perfect sense. Al is a designer. But what good is a designer without a home to work in. So now it's time to meet the other half of the team. Before you design your perfect home, you have to have a good foundation to work with. And this gentleman helps you do just that. Meet Richard Rolfingsmeyer otherwise affectionately known as Richard Realtor®!

1.  Tell us about yourself.

My name is Richard Rolfingsmeyer, or since 1995, when I added a marketing name because most people were unable to say or spell my last name, I go by, “Richard-REALTOR®".

I was born and raised in southern Illinois across the river from St. Louis, MO in the towns of Belleville and Millstadt. I’m a 2nd generation Realtor that’s been licensed since 1992 and have been around the real estate industry since I was 6 years old through my parent’s appraisal, insurance, property management and real estate businesses.

I used to own a RE/MAX Office in Edwardsville, IL, but in 2011 I sold my shares to move to Northwest Arkansas to help take care of my In-Laws who have health issues. And my partner, Al Glover is a Designer, and we both participate in activities associated with
the NWADA (Northwest Arkansas Design Association), HBA (Home Builders Association) and Northwest Equality events and groups that support local advocacy for diversity awareness in our community.

2.  Tell us about your business.

I started out as a Sales Associate/Owner at my family owned Century 21 Agency, then we went Independent with Master’s Real Estate, then I moved to Coldwell Banker Nester as a Sales Associate and ran their Property Management Dept. Residential/Commercial, then moved to Keller Williams Renaissance Centre as a Sales Associate and became their Team Leader to Recruit/Train/Consult, then moved to RE/MAX Preferred Partners-IL & RE/MAX Gold-MO as a Sales Associate/Owner/Manager, then moved to Arkansas and joined RE/MAX Real Estate Results as a Sales Associate.

3.  Why did you decide to go into real estate?

My parents wanted me to get into the business with them from a young age, but I wanted to go to Art School to be an Artist instead and not wanting to do anything that my folks were doing. Since I was 15 I’ve been working because I asked my parents to sign off on an early workers permit to allow me to work before I was 16. But at age 21 I was vacationing in Lake Havasu AZ with friends and ended up in a boating accident that caused me to not be able to lift at my job, so I was forced by my doctor not to work for months. Real estate did not require me to lift and my Mom talked me into getting my real estate license. Here I am 27 years later and at age 48, I’m happy with my decision to get into the family biz and proud of my career choice with all its accomplishments.

4.  What is the difference between a real estate agent and a realtor?

Both must be licensed to sell real estate, but the biggest difference between a real estate agent and a REALTOR® is that the REALTOR® is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the word REALTOR® is a federally trademarked word using the circle trademark “R” when used in print.

A REALTOR® must subscribe to the
REALTOR® Code of Ethics, which includes 17 articles and to the public, this part can matter most and typically why the Code of Ethics matters to a consumer because they are enforced by local real estate boards and they contain an underlying Standards of Practice. These standards are more restrictive and confining to conduct business than state guidelines that govern real estate agents who simply hold a license.

These 17 Articles are intrinsic to a REALTOR® in their everyday business practice, but one article typically stands above the rest: Above all, the REALTOR® must pledge to put the interests of their clients above their own.

These 17 things a REALTOR® promises to do through their affiliation and membership that real estate agents don't because they’re not affiliated nor a member can be found here:
NAR Code of Ethics 2019

The National Association of REALTORS® was founded in 1908 and in 2018 has 1.3 million members. And usually if a real estate agent is not a member, it's because they do not do enough business to justify the costs of affiliation or membership.

5.  How do you help people find the right home?

I have a Buyer Questionnaire that I send or email to Clients that once answered allows me to better understand their situation and options to Buy. Then I enter their search criteria into our local MLS (Multiple Listing Service) and any properties that meet their needs and wants are emailed back to them for their review. If they have a chance to drive by any of them before we schedule time to view is best. Once we begin looking, I ask them to rate each home on a scale of 1-10, 1 is low and 10 is high and I keep their top 3 to review at the end to see if there are any that they want more info on or to make an Offer. If they like one the best we make an Offer and if it gets accepted by the Seller, we go through inspections, appraisal, title processes and if all is clear we can Close on the “right home” for them.

6.  When it’s time for someone to sell their home, can you make that process easier? How?

Yes, I have a Seller Questionnaire that I send or email to Clients that once answered allows me to better understand their situation and options to Sell and provide them with a Market Valuation. With 27 years of experience, I can provide hassle-free service along with Seller Net Sheets (List Price & Offer Ranges that allow a Seller to understand what Terms they can accept when Offers come in and what they will approximately need to bring to or walk away with from Closing). And I have a team of professionals that I work with: a Professional Stager/ Designer & Photographer to make things easier for a Seller to be more prepared for Market.

7.  What does it take to become a realtor? Are there certain skills or character traits one needs to be successful?

Anyone can take an Online Real Estate Course or take a Local Real Estate School’s Course to become a Salesperson or a Broker. Once they pass that they then study for and take the State Exam to be a Salesperson or a Broker. And once they pass that they can then join a local Real Estate Company, as well as the Local Board of REALTORS and the State and National Association of REALTORS.

Typically, a REALTOR is someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and people or sales skills. And when I used to own and recruit Agents, I interviewed all kinds of people with different skills and backgrounds. Many people we thought would do great in the business are no longer in it and others you sometimes questioned if they would make it are still in it and thriving. So it’s sometimes a mistake to say that only those with a certain skill set or traits that can or cannot make it. I personally believe that if anyone has a remote desire to do real estate then they owe it to themselves to do it and see how things go. Because you just never know unless you try first.

8.  What do you like most and least about being your own boss?

MOST: Ability to earn as little or as much as you want or can each year, no ceiling. The freedom to determine your own schedule, to some degree, and the ability to travel when you want, within reason. This past year we were able to take a three week vacation, which we used to think would be too long or impossible to do at a consecutive time frame. And the answer to all of those were, it wasn’t too long and was very possible to be gone that amount of time when you have people you trust to assist you with your business while you are away so that you can truly enjoy your time off, be it a few days, a week or even three weeks or more.

LEAST: After 27 years, I have a tough time adding anything to this column. Maybe not getting Federal Holidays off, but I do when I can schedule it that way. Or maybe having to do everything, but I have learned that it’s a cost of doing the business I love to do.

9.  What has been the most difficult part of being a realtor?

Like I just mentioned, realizing that you are required to do everything yourself or hire others that can do things for you. i.e. marketing, processing, secretary, sales, accounting, handyperson, negotiator, prospector, etc, and the list goes on.

10.  This is a website for budding entrepreneurs and so I always ask for some tips from those who are “doing it”. Do you have any resources that you have used that you would recommend?

Apps: TurboScan, DocuSign, DropBox, Compass, RPR, VenMo, CashApp, LandGlide, MileIQ

Software or Programs: DocuSign, PaperlessPiepline, FormSimplicity, GoogleDrive, ShowingTime, Xpressdocs 0

Training: David Knox, Mike Ferry, Tom Ferry, Richard Robbins, Brian Buffini

11.  Do you have any tips to share on promoting yourself?

Do not underestimate the power of the word-of-mouth personally or through all social media platforms. Advertise to a niche market by mail or online and hand write notes. Network as much or as often possible with as many organizations, groups or people as you can to help build and grow your business.

12.  What other advice would like to share?

Pay yourself first, then bills, debts and reinvesting in your business, find a charity that you’re passionate about to donate to regularly and be sure to save money to invest in real estate, retirement and travel. Trust your gut and surround yourself with people that believe in you and what you are wanting to do. Read books or quotes that help inspire your mind and soul. And stop trying to please everyone because it’s impossible. Embrace change and acknowledge the good you have in your life and business.

Sometimes It Pays to Step Outside the Norm! Meet Al Glover!

A few months ago, I did something quite outside the norm for me.  I went to a local networking event!  And not just any networking event.  I went to Metro After Hours!  You may ask why this was unusual.  Well...because it's an event for designers, architects, and others in that field.  Not the type of people you usually associate with networking meetups.  And definitely not the first people you think of when you say home business owners.  But hey...I figured they might want a bit of help with their businesses also so off I went.  And met this month's Success Story.  He's fun.  He's talented.  He's my newest friend!  Meet Al Glover!

1. Al, tell us about yourself.

I am an Oklahoma native who has spent lots of time in Northwest Arkansas with family.  I am a father of 2, husband, and artist. I have spent a number of years outside the country, living in Canada.  While in Canada, I taught color theory at the University in Alberta.  I also competed in rodeo for years as a young man!

2. Tell us about your business.
Foxx York Inc. is the brainchild of myself and my husband Richard Realtor.  We wanted to create a way to express our passions...in design, in real estate, in Art and other endeavors.  We offer services across the US.

3. Why did you decide to become a designer?

I have an uncle who is an Architect, and as a child I sat at the drawing board and learned from him.  He was a great inspiration to me, coupled with my passion for textural beauty.

4. How do you approach the design process?

My first degree was psychology.  But my desire to design took over.  I have developed what I term “the psychology of design”, the process of understanding my client and assisting them in the execution of a dream.

5. What inspires your designs?

My inspiration for design comes from literally everything... that sounds broad but it’s true.  It could be the clouds in the sky or an old abandoned rusty car.  Nature is probably one of the largest influences!

6.  What does it take to become a designer?  Are there certain skills or character traits one needs to be successful?

There are a great number of skills needed to become a designer.  And training is necessary.   I feel that the best designers are born with a 6th sense.  There is an understanding of scale and composition that is hard to teach.  A designer must be able to view the world through others' eyes.  To learn to listen to the client and help them realize their vision

7.  What do you like most and least about being your own boss?

Being self employed is probably the largest responsibility that I know of.  You have to be disciplined in your time, finances, and be your own self motivator!  I like the freedom of schedule the most and learning changing technology the least.

8.  What has been the most difficult part of being an entrepreneur?

To be a great entrepreneur, you must have the courage of a lion. The  most difficult part is likely the ever evolving business world. The constant need to change the way you do business in order to remain relevant.

9.  This is a website for budding entrepreneurs and so I always ask for some tips from those who are “doing it”.   Do you have any resources that you have used that you would recommend?

I suggest that any business owner always keep an open mind to how to reach and relate to their clientele.  There is always another way!

10. Do you have any tips to share on promoting yourself?

Social media has changed the way we promote ourselves. I think picking a direction and sticking with it is key.  Don’t try to cover too many bases.

11. What other advice would like to share?

Above all, honesty is the key to success.

12. How can we contact you to learn more FoxxYork and your services?

I'm Hobnobbing With Hollywood! Meet Joie Gharrity!

Facebook Groups...you know I love them,  I'm not talking about those spammy everybody-vomit-your-links-endlessly type of groups.  I mean real Facebook groups designed to create a community.  Done properly, they are a great place to build relationships.  That's where I met this month's Success Story.  She runs an awesome group called Branding for Professional Business Women!  Everyone meet Joie Gharrity.  And when you're finished reading this, go join her group!  See you there!

1. Joie, tell us about yourself.

I am the Founder of 113 Branding Digital Media Studio. I'm a Brand Director, Creative Producer, Author, and International Speaker. I have worked in the Hollywood entertainment industry for 15+ years at top companies, in film, television, original web content, and branded entertainment. I was hand-picked by the ABC Studio President to launch the first multi-media startup business for The Walt Disney Company.

I was inspired to launch 113 Branding because I realized that most entrepreneurs were not focused on standing in their own Spotlight and selling themselves, which impacts their long-term success. I integrate my strategic branding and content development vision with both the creative and business sides of the entertainment industry.

2. Tell us about your book

In my book The Red Carpet Guide to Visibility and Influence, I share branding strategies, techniques, tools, and tips that can be implemented easily. I am passionate about being of service and working with entrepreneurs to help them gain Superstar Visibility and Influence in the marketplace.

3. Why did you write this book?

I truly believe that it is your birthright as an entrepreneur to stand in your Visibility and Influence Spotlight and shine bright. It has nothing to do with the last name you are born into or your vocation. It does have to do with living your true purpose turning up your Visibility and Influence Spotlight and allowing your Influence to shine.

4. How has being a Hollywood insider helped with your current career?

I have taken my Hollywood insider background along with the strategies, tools and tips and repurposed them specifically for entrepreneurs to stand in their Spotlight. I consider entrepreneurs stars in the business world. And I treat them accordingly.

5. What can Hollywood teach us about branding and marketing?

To step fully out of the shadows and embrace your gifts and talents by getting Visible and increasing your Influence. Running a business is much like filling theater seats. It takes a minimum of two years before a feature film goes into the theaters. The minute a movie gets a green light the studio along with the producing team immediately start working on getting the buzz up in the marketplace. They do not wait until the project is complete or perfect. As an entrepreneur, you want to hit the ground running to grow the Visibility and Influence about your projects and services before you launch so that there are buyers waiting when you go live.

6. It appears that in Hollywood, it’s still “not what you know but who you know”.  Would you say this is correct?  How can knowing the right people help you build your brand and expand your business?

A well know quote of mine is “Only together can we soar higher and higher.” It is impossible to build a thriving brand without a huge tribe and network. Getting out of your own backyard is also an important piece to growing your brand. Knowing lots of the “right people” should be a priority for every entrepreneur who is serious about building a sustainable business.

7. What has been the most difficult part of getting your message out?

Visibility takes courage. Many people have grown up not necessarily being seen and heard in a big way. Nor have they been encouraged to stand in their Spotlight and own their gifts and talents. I encourage people daily to make it a habit. It takes a minute to really get comfortable with the Visibility Spotlight. However, it is so worth it!

8. Do you have any resources that you would recommend for entrepreneurs – or anyone – struggling to make themselves stand out?

I have a Huffington Post article called Double and Triple Dip Your Way to Massive Brand Visibility. It is a network driven 113 Branding Strategy that is based on the experience of working in Hollywood. We have a very unique way that we network that leverages each other’s influence.

9. I love your book and think the topic is SOOO important.  You’ve been hard at work promoting your book and your brand.  And quite well, I might add.  Do you have any tips to share on promoting yourself?

BRAG, BRAG, BRAG. I have gotten push back on my encouraging specifically women to brag. However, I do not consider this to be a negative three letter word. In Hollywood I was taught and encouraged to embrace my wins and to share them with others. How is someone going to know to work with you or buy your products and services if they don't know about them. Standing in our expertise, gifts and talents is your birthright. Shine a bright light on everything you are doing in pre-production, production and post production is my advice and allow the marketplace to see your greatness.

10. What other advice would like to share with new entrepreneurs?

Being an entrepreneur is one of the best titles and jobs in the world. Embrace it and shout from the rooftops that you are an entrepreneur. I see entrepreneurs sometimes skirt around their title and what they do at times because there can be a stigma in the marketplace. Kick that to the curb and stand loud and proud.

11. Where can we purchase your book?

12. Is there anything else you would like to share?
Stand in your Spotlight, get Visible and grow your Influence. Your future self will thank you!
